Firstly, i've been working heaps so i've had no time to actuate the words spiralling around in my head into text that i can make a journal, thats why this has been a long time coming.

I've been reading 'The Screwtape Letters' recently and just yesterday it made me think of Humility . It is one of the least understood virtues and that is because it is so badly defined. Humility is so often thought of as having a low opinion of yourself, your talents and your ideas. In this way, thousands of pretty girls think they are ugly, and thousands of clever men think their ideas are stupid.

But thats not what humility is supossed to do. It is designed to bring you to a state of mind where where you could paint the best picture in the world or design the best cathedral in the world and know that it is the best and be happy becasue of that, without being any more or less glad at having done it than you would have if it had been done by someone else instead. God Himself wants you to be so free of any bias in your favour that you can rejoice in your own talents as openly and gratefully as in your friends talents, or in a sunset or a beautiful picture or Nature. In the long-run, you should be able to see every creation (including yourself) as amazing and excellent.

Humility usually starts with a low self-esteem but the end-point is an amazing self esteem, one in which you can see yourself as the everything God made you to be: talented, special, loved and created with a purpose.

Finally, we must all try to bring to heart a doctrine that we all know but find hard to bring into our feelings: We did not create ourselves, all our talents have been given to us, so you might as well be proud of being blonde. You might as well love yourself because you are the only one exactly like you.

Love yourself and your talents and your opinions. Just as much as you love and respect your friends and their talents and their opinions
